Cork is one of Portugal’s biggest industries and a natural material with impressive properties. From stoppers of wine bottles, to shoe designs and wall coatings, cork is a versatile material that can undergo a great amount of different processing leading to different appearances.
In August 2018, I had the opportunity to spend one month in a small village in Evora close to a skilful yet peculiar craftsman devoted to traditional materials and natural processes. Thanks to his deep interest and understanding of CNC milling, I could gain some valuable experience working on my projects.
This Lamp was on of my project. A visual game between two natural materials, cork and bamboo. The cork was CNC milled to give a simple yet elegant result and the top part was 3D woven with rattan.
